Advantages of Studying at TOBB University of Economics and Technology (Ankara)

The TOBB ETÜ undergraduate Economics program provides a solid and balanced curriculum that meets the theoretical and practical requirements of modern economics education. The program aims to equip students with independent and analytical thinking skills while providing a foundation for understanding Türkiye and the economies of other countries.

The TOBB ETÜ undergraduate Economics program offers many additional advantages alongside high-quality education:

Flexible curriculum: With changes introduced in recent years, students are given flexibility to take courses in areas that interest them and/or in which they wish to specialize. This is achieved by reducing the number of compulsory courses in the undergraduate program and increasing the number of elective courses. In this regard, students are offered numerous theoretical and practical elective courses taught by internationally experienced and well-equipped faculty members.

High scholarship rate and high faculty-to-student ratio: The Department of Economics at TOBB ETÜ stands out among economics departments at other foundation universities due to its high scholarship rate and high-quality student body (10 students with full scholarships, 25 students with 50% scholarships, and 5 students without scholarships in 2020) as well as its high number of faculty members per student (approximately one faculty member for every 2.5 new students).

Double major/minor opportunities: TOBB ETÜ offers a double major program that allows successful students in their respective departments to obtain a diploma from another department, as well as a minor program that enables students to specialize in another field. These programs, which offer greater flexibility than those at many other universities, provide valuable opportunities for successful students.

Cooperative education: TOBB ETÜ prepares all students for life after graduation through its cooperative education program, which provides approximately one year of practical work experience before graduation.

The cooperative education program enables students to determine their career plans at an early stage according to their interests and also ensures that students are given a strong advantage in the job market after graduation.

Courses in English: Within our curriculum, courses are offered in both Turkish and English. Courses without a (*) or (**) mark in the undergraduate curriculum table below are taught in Turkish. Courses marked with (*)—most of which are compulsory courses—are taught in English. Courses marked with (**) represent elective courses that must be selected from the Department of Economics, the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, and other faculties of the university. Some of these courses are offered in Turkish, while others are offered in English. Students can freely choose among them. Approximately 70% of the elective courses organized by the Department of Economics are taught in English.

Second foreign language: In addition to the compulsory intensive English preparatory program, every TOBB ETÜ student must successfully complete four courses in a second foreign language of their choice, in addition to several compulsory and elective courses, in order to graduate from the undergraduate program.
