SANKO University was established by the Sani Konukoğlu Foundation on June 18, 2003, in one of the most central areas of Gaziantep. The university specializes exclusively in medical and health sciences and includes three faculties: the Faculty of Medicine, the Faculty of Dentistry, and the Faculty of Health Sciences. Turkish is the primary language of instruction for all programs offered at the university.
The university is governed by a supervisory board consisting of eight members. SANKO University is one of the universities participating in the Erasmus network and exchange programs and maintains close academic relationships with many foreign universities.

approved the admission of students to the Faculty of Medicine. Based on the results of the 2014 university entrance examination, 50 students were admitted to study at the Faculty of Medicine. In 2015, students received full scholarships. The Faculty of Medicine is one of the first three faculties of SANKO University and was approved for establishment on June 18, 2013. During the preparatory process initiated by the university’s supervisory board in December 2013, the duties of dean were undertaken by the university’s founding president, Professor Dr. Ahmet Sanaf, until Professor Dr. Salih Murat Akın was elected as the founding dean of Istanbul University in accordance with Article 40/B of the Higher Education Law, and officially began his studies on April 1, 2014.
