Adıyaman University was established in 1983 in the province of Adıyaman. It is a public university located in a region that has historically been home to several civilizations. In its early years, Adıyaman University operated as a College of Health and Applied Sciences affiliated with İnönü University in the nearby province of Malatya.
Adıyaman continued in this manner until 1997, when the Faculty of Arts and Sciences was established as a branch affiliated with Gaziantep University, followed by the establishment of the Faculty of Education. In 2006, the Turkish government decided to transform these institutions into an administratively and academically independent university, which became known as Adıyaman University.
Equipped with advanced technological services, Adıyaman University has 14 faculties, 3 graduate institutes, and 6 schools of applied vocational education.
