Ağrı İbrahim Çeçen University (ICUA) is a public higher education institution located in Ağrı, Eastern Anatolia, Turkey. It was previously a Faculty of Education affiliated with Atatürk University in Erzurum.

In 2007, the institution was developed into a university called Ağrı Dağı University, named after Mount Ararat in Turkish.
The foundations of Ağrı İbrahim Çeçen University were laid with the Ağrı Girls’ Primary Teacher Training School, which was established under the supervision of the Ministry of Education during the 1967–1968 academic year and later transformed into a two-year educational institute.

Changing the University’s Name Following an Agreement Between the Government and Businessman İbrahim Çeçen

The university’s name was changed following the signing of a protocol between the government and local businessman and philanthropist İbrahim Çeçen, who is known for carrying out major engineering projects in Turkey. The university now bears the name of engineer İbrahim Çeçen, reflecting the government’s and society’s appreciation for his significant contributions to engineering development and major projects in the country.

The university comprises six faculties, two institutes, five schools, five vocational schools, and five research and application centers.

The university is a member of the Caucasus University Association.

The university opened in 2007 under the name Ağrı Dağı University, and in 2008, its name was changed to honor its new founder, İbrahim Çeçen.

Initially, the university had only one faculty—the Faculty of Education. The academic staff consisted of 18 professors and lecturers, while the student body numbered 1,200. Today, approximately 300 faculty members are involved in teaching and training, including 59 academics and 259 associate academic members, while 9,000 students are pursuing their degrees across 12

Today, ICUA is the fourth-largest university in Eastern Anatolia. It has two campuses, one central laboratory for scientific research and study institutes, four scientific research laboratories and centers, 12 laboratories and study halls, and two libraries.

The schools at ICUA include the Vocational School, Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Faculty of Education, Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, and Vocational School of Health.

Campus at the University of Turkey

There are two campuses in Ağrı.

  • The eastern campus is located near the city center and houses health-related schools.
  • The main (western) campus is located along the highway leading to Erzurum.

The YÖS exam is considered an essential requirement for admission to Turkish public universities.
